Antarctic Animals: Living on the Edge
Order Number: 509.0009
p>Only a few animal species live in Antarctica. On the ice-covered land mass, air temperatures dip to below -100 degrees F. Near-freezing water is toasty by comparison. So most animals live in the chilly ocean water surrounding the continent. Animals like penguins and seals are specially adapted to survive in this otherwise inhospitable environment.
