Since the end of the Cold War between the former Soviet Union and the United States, U.S. foreign policy strategies concerning defense have changed. Students are encouraged to examine the key issues in U.S. foreign policy and understand the roles of the president, the president’s advisors, Congress, and organized citizen groups in influencing the making of foreign policy.
Students will gain an understanding of: ●The development and ending of the Cold War ●The post-Cold War shift in U.S. foreign policy, including the effective use of U.S. intelligence and a military coalition ●Changes in NATO and European partnerships following the Cold War ●The power of organized citizen groups in affecting foreign policy
