Genetic counselors investigate diseases that children inherit from their parents and grandparents. Follow genetic counselor Cathy Burson, Ph.D., as she treats a little boy who is one of three children in the U.S. receiving an experimental treatment for Pompe disease, a rare genetic disorder.
Take a field trip to a laboratory and see chromosomes under a microscope. Visit a grade school where Cathy teaches children about genetic problems. Learn about diseases that run in families and how genetic counselors can help.
