Arthur Miller is the most popular twentieth century dramatist studied in secondary schools. His plays continue to convey the atmosphere
of post-war America, and his social conscience and concern for human issues provide an enduring relevance.
Each program uses a combination of specially shot footage and archive material to set each play in context. Each program focuses on a
particular pivotal scene, about five minutes in duration, which brings out many of the main themes of the play. The scenes are filmed in
rehearsal and final performance. Actors and crew taking part are interviewed about their roles and the new performances are compared with
archival versions of the same scene, where possible and where appropriate.
