Reality Planes: Radicals focuses on square root ideas centered around the Pythagorean Theorem. Students use the Pythagorean Theorem to begin to explore distance on a grid.

The episode begins Holon presenting the X-team with a scavenger-hunt type problem. Students move distances on a grid in specific directions. However, there is a problem when the distance is.

To make that length, students are introduced to the Pythagorean Theorem in a context. In the first scenario, students find the hypotenuse of a 3–4–5 triangle. Using the same principle, they can then compute.

In another application of the Pythagorean Theorem, one of the X-team members is faced with a dilemma. She is trapped on a wall and cannot make it down. The X-team must then apply the Pythagorean Theorem in a contextual problem.

The program ends with the X-team solving a multiple solution application of on a grid resembling the Cartesian coordinate system.
