Theme: Standing Up Against Prejudice Directed at Someone Else

Your students will examine how peer pressure can lead people to abandon their principles and make the wrong choices. They will see that including others makes activities more fun.

When Arthur forms a club, peer pressure from older students convinces him to exclude Francine because she isn’t “cool.” Audrey feels awful for her friend and confides in the English teacher. Ms. Bachevsky relates a similar event in her childhood when her best friend stood up for her. Audrey tells the others she doesn’t want to join a club that excludes kids because they’re “different.” Arthur realizes he has been unfair and invites Francine to join the club.

Activities:Inspire your students to find real-life examples of heroes in the news, at school, and at home. Emphasize togetherness with a mural project and clubs where all students are welcome.
