The giant loggerhead sea turtle is one of the most fascinating creatures on earth. Having survived since the time of the dinosaurs, the future of the turtle is threatened by natural and man-made barriers. In this lesson, your students will see how biologists use estimation, statistics, and other mathematical concepts to study the turtles and help give them a fighting chance for survival.

Challenge students to:
•Graph data on the location of turtle nests.
•Use data on nest locations to make precautionary recommendations to beachfront developers who may inadvertently harm turtle nests.
•Compute the growth rate of turtles.
